Undergraduate and Career & Technical Study Scholarships Guidelines 
 
The Rotary Club of Chariho awards $36,000 annually - (6) $1,500 scholarships to qualified individuals pursuing post-secondary education at accredited educational institutions.  Recipients may apply for the scholarship that best suits their pursuit and will be selected based on a confidential process by the Chariho Rotary Scholarship Committee in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Chariho Board of Directors.  Recipients may apply and be awarded the scholarship for (4) total years of post-secondary education, upon annual re-application and if all renewal criteria is met.
 
 
Bradley Friel Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is given in the name of Bradley Friel, one of the founding members of the Rotary Club of Chariho. Brad was posthumously named the Centennial Rotarian of the Year, in recognition of his dedication to Rotary and area philanthropy.  Brad Friel had held every position on the Board of Directors and also maintained perfect attendance for 30 years.
Up to (4) scholarships are available annually to seniors who:
  • Attend Chariho High School or Exeter-West Greenwich High School, regardless of their residence.
  • Or, is a student attending schools outside of Chariho HS or EWG HS, but who resides in Charlestown, Hopkinton, Richmond, or Exeter (Chariho Rotary’s catchment area.
  • The criteria for selection is based on several areas of focus with an emphasis placed on the applicant’s community service activities. For each scholarship, the Scholarship Committee will score each application individually and confidentially with the applicant’s name redacted and selections will be based on the following weighted criteria: 
    • Community Service (50%)
    • Essay (20%)
    • Academic Ability (10%)
    • Extracurricular Activities (10%)
    • Recommendation Letter (10%)
  • Scholarship applications must be received no later than April 30th.  To be eligible, applicants must follow the guidelines below. As the committee receives many applications, applicants who do not adhere to the guidelines will not be eligible.  
 
 
Merrill Moone Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is given in the name of Merrill Moone, a long-serving Chariho Rotarian, in recognition of his dedication to Rotary and appreciation for the advancement of the trades. 
(1) scholarship is available annually to a senior who:
  • Attends Chariho High School or Exeter-West Greenwich High School, regardless of their residence.
  • Or, is a student attending schools outside of Chariho HS or EWG HS, but who resides in Charlestown, Hopkinton, Richmond, or Exeter (Chariho Rotary’s catchment area).
  • Pursuing post-secondary education at a vocational, trades or technical school.
  • The criteria for selection is based on several areas of focus with an emphasis placed on the applicant’s community service activities. For each scholarship, the Scholarship Committee will score each application individually and confidentially with the applicant’s name redacted and selections will be based on the following weighted criteria: 
    • Community Service (50%)
    • Essay (20%)
    • Academic Ability (10%)
    • Extracurricular Activities (10%)
    • Recommendation Letter (10%)

G. Stuart “Stu” Douglas Scholarship                                                                                           
Named for one of the Rotary Club of Chariho’s charter members, this scholarship is given in the name of G. Stuart “Stu” Douglas.  Stu dedicated his life to education, with over 30 years at Chariho Tech, retiring as its Director.  In tribute to his late daughter and the incredible care she received from a multitude of healthcare professionals, Stu wishes that this scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a degree in a medical or heath-related field.  (1) scholarships are available annually to a Chariho senior who:
  • Attends Chariho High School, regardless of their residence.
  • Pursuing post-secondary education in the medical or health-related field.

For this scholarship, the Scholarship Committee will score each application individually and confidentially with the applicant’s name redacted and selections will be based on the following weighted criteria:
